Dr. Yao Shen is a Lecturer in the Computer Science department at NJIT.
Education: PhD in computational chemistry at the University of Notre Dame, where she identified novel hits targeting essential genes in pathogens using structural-based or ligand-based drug discovery techniques and metabolic network analysis.
Professional Background: Research scientist at Columbia University and Director of Data Science at Darwin Health. Her interests focus on machine learning models to predict patient responses to drug treatment using data-driven approaches integrating data from next-generation sequencing, chemical structures and patients' clinical data. At NJIT, Yao teaches courses on R programming, Python programming and Big Data technologies.
